We just came back from seeing this film. My mouth is still open and my eyes are still filled with tears. Everyone should see this film. High schools should show it. There are a few people-- real people--who were horrified enough at what was going on to act accordingly. If we all see their examples and follow them...there would be hope. Thank you to whomever made this movie, it was real and heart-wrenching and riveting: it didn't let you off the hook.

I saw a film on TCM that was French-made and had no fucused diologue. Occasionally persons in the crowd would have lines. The scene is a night club and also a pharmacy down the street. There are many comedic bits throughout the film such as a waiter tearing his trousers and being told to go outside by his boss, only to have four other waiters with an article of ruined clothing each go out and exchange with him so that finally all of his uniform is tattered. In another, the glass door of the club is broken and after the mess is cleaned up, the door man pretends to open the "door" for other patrons. The film was probably made in the late 60s and the film depicts time continuously from one evening to the mid morning of the next day, going from one comedic bit to the next. If this is familiar to anyone please respond. Thanx

The artist's wife must have laughed too long and too often at his "sexual prowess", as this tender and engaged exploration, through the ink sketches and paint, of the beautiful girl model resolves itself into a savage humiliation. Captivating, riveting (as watching someone drawing simple lines can be in Rivette's hands) and explosive, a compelling watch

We see 2 creatives vying for our attention - the writer/narrator (Rampling's character) - and Ozon (the movie's director). And indeed the crossover between the two provides us with a delicious, stylish, noirish treat, as we try to unravel just whose creative energy and imagination we now witness upon the screen - are we inside Ozon's head, seeing as he sees - or are we inside the character of the author (Rampling), and seeing with her eyes? Fascinating, fun and oh so sexy when Ludivigne Sagnier is on-screen...

Powerful, stylish, searing emotion gives way to a vicious pathos as the heroine declines into a mortal tail-spin - yet the ending baffles, as if to say "Don't take life/yourself as seriously (as this movie did)... but overall a glorious insight into life and love at the edge

A sublime movie, and it unravels so well, and so satisfactorily at each stage of the "game". Brilliant genius, wrapped-up in all that glorious je-ne-sais-quoi French insoussiance..

While the movie may get a 9 or a 10 in some categories (visuals, cinematographic language), overall it was frustrating and a bad cinematic experience for me.
Even after reading some critics (for and against) I didn't have a clue.
Maybe the French-speaking public will enjoy it better...?
Think twice before buying the tickets!
